Board of Directors Recruitment Announcement
MorDance is a trailblazing, women-led ballet company striving to innovate, elevate, and diversify the ballet landscape to convey a true reflection of our contemporary world. Our organization is currently seeking volunteer leaders to join its dynamic board of directors.
Each board member is responsible for attending monthly meetings (fourth Tuesday at 8:30pm via Zoom), raising $2,000/year, volunteering approximately 3hr of time per month, serving on one committee, and expanding MorDances network and follower base.
The board needs a variety of skills, with a strong emphasis on board candidates with event planning, legal, fundraising and media expertise, as well as those connected to the local government, foundations, and cultural organizations.
The Nominating Committee is accepting applications until April 15, and those interested in board service can complete an application at https://forms.gle/UTRGy5XuaUzwqrf3
About MorDance:
MorDance serves a vibrant community of art enthusiasts across New York City representing an array of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Over ten seasons, we have produced and performed more than twenty original works for the public at prominent venues including Symphony Space, Baryshnikov Art Center, Battery Dance Festival, Dance at Socrates, Counterpointe Project, and Sounds of the City. We have held residencies at the Silo at Kirkland Farm, Mana Contemporary, Vineyard Arts Project, and Kaatsbaan Upstream; and were named the 2016 resident dance company of the Sheen Center, NYC.
Our commitment to accessibility encapsulates an expansive audience from long-standing patrons of ballet to those who have yet to be introduced to the genre. MorDance brings dance workshops to youth in economically disadvantaged communities across NYC. The majority of students we serve fit into one or more of the following demographics: lives below the federal poverty line, experiences a learning disability, experiences homelessness, identifies as a member of an underrepresented minority group.
MorDance is operated by majority women and by artists representing a cultural spectrum. Our organization is wholly contingent on meaningful and reciprocal artistic collaborations and community partnerships. MorDance believes that dance has the capacity to express and negotiate complex contemporary issues surrounding race, gender, and the environment through its unique power to transcend language. Our repertoire transforms themes of activism and humanity into captivating movement, inspiring audiences to become more civically engaged and socially responsible. We are dedicated to reimagining the ballet artform as a vessel of learning and impactful change.
